Escarpment Winery.

What they do.

In 2019, Torbreck Barossa purchased the iconic Martinborough vineyard and winery, Escarpment. In 2022, Winemaker Larry McKenna, NZ industry stalwart, retired leaving his legacy in the more than capable hands of Viticulturist, Rowan Hoskins and Winemaker, Tim Bourne.

With the financial and physical support of the team behind Torbreck, an established and iconic winery based in the Barossa, Australia, Escarpment is set to reach its true potential of making world-class, premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

An escarpment:

a long, steep slope, especially one at the edge of a plateau or separating areas of land at different heights

Big open skies stretch across the Wairarapa, ‘glistening waters’ in te reo Māori, and the ancient alluvial soils run deep beneath the land. There is natural balance here.

The quality focused winery is based on Te Muna Road, Martinborough. 'Te Muna' in Māori, means 'secret' or 'special place' and to the team at Escarpment that conveys their emotional connection to the land and what it means to live, grow and make wine there.
